NTNU’s Diversity Conference, 16 - 17 September 2014

A call for expressions of interest to NTNU’s Diversity Conference 2014:

University Learning and Teaching in a Diverse Norway

The purpose of this conference is to address issues of diversity in Norwegian universities

Venue: Rica Nidelven Hotel
Address: Havnegaten 1-3, 7400 Trondheim

On 16 and 17 September 2014, the NTNU Diversity project is holding a conference on diversity in higher education in Trondheim, Norway. Although diversity can cover many factors and characteristics, we are especially interested in students’ language and cultural diversity.  The key questions that drive the diversity project, and which will be the focus of the conference, are:

  • How can Norwegian universities become even better places for culturally and linguistically diverse students?
  • What can universities do – what should universities do – to better induct, support and teach students coming from many countries, many different backgrounds and many different levels of English?
  • What about research – what needs to happen to ensure researchers feel part of the local community, part of the global community, and able to use and share their knowledge, skills and contacts?

Does your university have good practice to offer or a project underway to address these issues?  If so, then the September 2014 conference is the place to share your practice and to hear from others with similar concerns.  Papers, project descriptions and work in progress are all welcome.  Those who are invited to present will have a short (15 minute) presentation time followed by a longer period for discussion, questions, and suggestions.  We hope this will be an opportunity for interaction and reflection, too.
